![]() Hoping that this answer may offer great insights on how to use Blender as an image manipulation tool even if this question is nearly a year-old.Īs a beginner, but investigated blender for any image work(3D/2D) in my opinion, blender is very useful for non-destructive image manipulation. That said, if painting is what you are looking for, you might be better off with a program designed for painting, like Krita or MyPaint. Also note that blender's painting tools recently got a nice upgrade as part of the GSoC. Painting is not my strong suit, but there have been some pretty amazing things done with blender's painting tools. And using blender's image editor it won't be non-destructive (though for something like this I'm not sure if a non-destructive workflow makes a lot of sense?). However for creating images from scratch with 2D techniques like painting, blender is probably almost certainly not the best around. The only major difference is that the images were rendered with a camera, not Cycles or some other render engine. After all, it's almost what the compositor was designed for. It's light weight, intuitive, mostly non-destructive and in most cases just as good as PhotoShop.įor something like photo-manipulation (by that I mean color grading, adding effects like vignetting, etc.), the compositor can work very well (and non-destructively). The last thing worth mentioning is that if you're on OS X, there are loads of cheaper image editors. ![]() There's also CinePaint which is a fork of GIMP with some extra features, but I can't vouch for it, as I haven't used it at all. The image painting in Blender is fine for texturing (and even there it's kinda weak compared to other 3D packages, something they'll be fixing in the upcoming releases), but would be hard to work with if you just want to do image manipulation.Įven though GIMP isn't the best image manipulation program in the world, it's really the only option at the moment (if you want something open source). However, it's not great for image manipulation, which is GIMP's primary goal.īlender as a 2D editor would actually be extremely difficult to use. Inkscape is extremely non-destructive because everything is a shape. I realize that the question is a bit broader that blender itself but I think it is fair to say that in order to do anything related to 3D, you will need, sooner or later, a good image manipulation software.Ī few people in the comments mentioned Inkscape for vector editing. So I wonder, could Blender be used as an image manipulator in an efficient way or does the compositing in blender lack features for being a great (non-destructive) image manipulation tool ? Then, what free/open source software would you recommend for this task ? For example, if you apply a color curve tool in GIMP, its effects are "merged" with the layer and you lose the ability to change the curve later on. In that regard, GIMP work-flow is mostly destructive. It may be just me but I think most people start to change their work-flow from a destructive one to a non destructive one. ![]() For the 2D side (texturing and image editing) GIMP was the default one for many years but I start to reconsider it. As a 3D/2D hobbyist myself who try to use the most free/open source software when I can, blender has become my default 3D software. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Even the side activities and minigames are not ignored by the developers and they keep adding more to the game. There is a brand-new skill that is yet to be revealed, and it will make its debut later this year. We all know how a part of the community dedicates itself to skills and it looks like we haven’t seen the last of the skill system just yet. RuneScape has one of the most supportive communities I have seen in all of gaming and my personal experience has been largely positive even in 2023. I was away from the game for years and yet it took minutes to find helpful players who grouped up and helped me out. Despite being such an old MMORPG, the game continues to command a large audience and there are loyalists who have been playing the game their entire lives. I have had plenty of bad experiences in RuneScape and have been duped even by my “friends” back in the day but we live and we learn. But OSRS continues to be a wonderful experience that is held up by the community and things have not changed in over two decades. I would be lying if I said that the game isn’t showing its age. The gameplay, content, progression systems, environments, and music need no introduction. And I fully expect more content to come in 2024 and beyond, so RuneScape is not going anywhere and there is still plenty of new content to experience every year. The Bounty Hunters minigame is also making a return to the game which will excite PvP fans. The Secret of the North, which is a Master-level quest is also now in the game with some great solo-only boss encounters. There will be more social features that arrive at the Woodcutting activity, which has always been a fan-favorite among fans. Desert Treasure II will make its way to Old School RuneScape in the Summer of 2023 and it is expected to bring new bosses and new content. If you were around at the time when Desert Treasure came out, you know can imagine how excited a lot of players were when its sequel was announced. Old School RuneScape recently got its Grandmaster Quest which serves as a sequel to Desert Treasure, a quest that is almost two decades old. Jagex hosted its Winter Summit towards the end of last year where it unveiled its content plans for 2023. The State of RuneScape/OSRS Content in 2023 Guild Wars 2 is the only other MMORPG that has made me feel this way and if you are someone with real-life commitments and are unnerved by the grind in some of the other popular MMORPGs, RuneScape/OSRS is worth a shot. RuneScape/OSRS is one of the exceptions in the MMORPG space that feels like it respects your time while also respecting the fact that you may not always have the time and resources to “no life” the game. But it can also lead to burnout and RuneScape ensures that you do not feel left behind if you take a break. It is understandable why developers implement such systems as the games try to bait you into playing every single expansion to stop you from feeling that you are missing out. One of the biggest problems with MMORPGs and even live-service looters is that your gear becomes less valuable over time if you stop playing. You may have not played the game for a decade and you will still be able to level up quickly and be ready to take on some of the most challenging bosses in the game after a week or two of playing. No matter how long of a break you take in RuneScape, gearing up for current content never feels like a massive chore. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Universal Adobe Patcher v2.0 may be reported as Threat: Win32:Malware-gen with high severity. ![]() ![]() I have restarted the AppleTV multiple times now, no change, Connected but Not Connected. It has been connected to this network for about 12 months now, never an issue. One of the things that stands about about the violence in the Raid films is that there’s something culturally specific about the character of the violence in these movies, like the way Tony Jaa and his Thai collaborators show the brutality of Muay Thai fighting. If it has something to say about your characters, then it can be as important as a scene of dialogue. It’s how you present violence that is the key component of this differentiation. Again, the primary focus is on Rama’s anguished face as he battles within himself, as he starts to slip deeper into the world of violence he now resides in. Or Rama burning the corrupt policeman on the hot plate - you only really see the aftermath in any detail. The focus of the scene is about the psychology of Bejo and Uco, who are capable of committing and witnessing such brutality, yet still conducting a business meeting at the same time. The restaurant scene in The Raid 2, with the lineup of men having their throats slit, barely shows any actual detail of violence. ![]() But violence is pointless if you don’t also use it to say something about the characters. When we hold on the shotgun blast - you have a wide frame to look at, you choose where your gaze falls. There are moments in The Raid 2 where I wanted to use the camera to question screen violence. Almost all the extreme violence in The Raid 2 either cuts away on impact, moves onto another opponent, or happens at a distance in a wide shot. There’s a subtle difference about how long a camera lingers on violence, and how much detail is shown. What kind of movies were you thinking about here? And how do their depictions of violence differ from how you conceive of violence in the Raid films? The Raid is much more subtle about not showing blood or gore but there’s a fair amount in The Raid 2, wouldn’t you say? You said that you’re not really attracted to movies that dwell on torture or violence. You say something very interesting in the audio commentary track for The Raid during the crawl-space sequence. By stripping away the cuts and cheats, everyone thinks they are seeing something unfold in real time, when in actual fact we would often be using semi-locked off cameras and multiple takes/layers of action that would allow us to minimize the threat and danger to the stunt performer. Our remit was always to find ways to show - usually in what appears to be an unbroken take - a stunt that would make the audience feel they were witnessing something dangerous. What kind of conversations did you have with the Piranha guys? What kind of language and concerns did they typically bring to the table? Your script for these films included bullet points for the fight and stunt scenes. In honor of a new Blu-ray box set containing the two Raid films, Vulture talked with Evans over email about the craft behind his films’ action scenes.Īpart from your actors, it seems like two of your closest collaborators on the two Raid films’ choreography was the Piranha stunt team and Andi, your computer graphics guy who added touch-ups, including blood. Even the most ostentatious action scene is even harder to set up than you imagine, making The Raid and its sequel’s many jaw-dropping set pieces that much more impressive. When Evans directs an action scene, he has to choreograph a scene with his stuntmen, cinematographer, camera crew, set decorators, production managers, and art designers in mind. If anything, Evans, the director of martial-arts smash The Raid: Redemption and its spectacular sequel, The Raid: Berandal, gets more ambitious with each film. Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans knows exactly how many levels of preparation and planning it takes to make a great action scene. ![]() |
